Common Sky HD Upgrade Questions

Can I fit a disk larger than 500GB?

The SkyHD receiver has a limitation with disks over 500GB that means you cannot format the drive in the SkyHD receiver. It is possible to use larger drives in a SkyHD receiver, but they must first be prepared while connected with a PC. This also means that if the drive needs to be reset in the future the drive must be removed from the receiver and prepared again in a PC. This is due to a limitation in the SkyHD receiver's firmware that is not able to format a hard drive above a capacity of 500GB.

Due to these limitations we do not currently supply drives larger than 500GB for SkyHD receivers.

UPGRADE SKY HD

My 500Gb SKY HD upgrade kit was ordered Friday 11 am arrived Monday 9.30. This included a specialist 500GB consumer electronics drive, screwdriver and a very good set of instructions, which are very clear. I think almost anyone could do the upgrade in 30 mins, however i used the COPY+ programme to copy recordings from old to new drive and this did take all day. I do feel the new drive is very good and works perfectly, but it does seem to make a little more noise than the old drive, it may take a day or so to get used to this. Also it seems to take more time to shut down when you put SKYHD into standby, but its great to have the extra space with more and more HD content on sky. Also stuck the old 300gb drive in PC, so two upgrades for the price of one. MIKE
